Postoperative muscle pains.

چکیده

MUSCLE pains have been reported as occurring after the administration of suxamethonium chloride. Bourne et al. (1952) made passing mention of this, but not until 1954 did Churchill-Davidson fully describe these pains and determine their incidence — primarily in the ambulant patient. His series was small, covering 68 patients. In view of considerable speculation on the frequency and importance of these pains it was decided to make a more detailed survey of their incidence and to this end two concurrent series of patients were submitted to a careful postoperative ethiodide, decamethonium iodide or other relaxant. Postoperative muscle pains and suxamethonium.

Two matched groups of patients with Hodgkin's disease undergoing a staging laparotomy received thiopentone, pancuronium bromide or suxamethonium 1.0 mg kg-1 (group 2) to facilitate tracheal intubation. There were no differences in the sites or degree of postoperative myalgia between the groups. It is concluded that efforts to reduce the frequency of suxamethonium muscle pains in patients having...

Muscle pains after intramuscular suxamethonium chloride.

The use of suxamethonium chloride by intramuscular injection as a short acting muscle relaxant for endotracheal intubation is described. The incidence and severity of postoperative muscle pains in this group of 94 patients is compared with the results of another group (of 112 patients) in which the drug was given intravenously. The incidence of pains was similar in the two groups (26.6 and 28.6...

Studies of drugs given before anaesthesia. IX. Morphine with tacrine.

Morphine and morphine with tacrine (tetrahydroaminacrine) have been compared when given intramuscularly as premedication, with regard to the pre-operative state of the patient, course of anaesthesia, sequelae, and effects on reactions to suxamethonium. Tacrine appeared to increase the pre-operative toxic effects of morphine, namely dizziness and nausea. During anaesthesia, hypotension was less ...

Tracheal intubation of outpatients with and without muscle relaxants.

PURPOSE To compare intubating conditions and postoperative myalgias in outpatients after intubation with propofol/alfentanil compared with propofol/alfentanil/succinylcholine with and without precurarisation with d-tubocurarine. METHODS 144 ASA I-II ambulatory patients for dental extraction under anesthesia were studied. Subjects received either 3 mg d-tubocurarine (Group II) or saline (Group...

The interaction of suxamethonium with propanidid and thiopentone.

An investigation was carried out in adults aged 20-60 years comparing the interaction of propanidid or thiopentone with the muscle relaxant suxamethonium. An attempt was made to correlate the apnoea time with the incidence and severity of muscle pains. No correlation was found between the apnoea times and the incidence of muscle pains. The overall incidence of muscle pains was 19 per cent. The ...
